Bird Friendly Glass at The Garden Room of the National Aviary

In October 2020 the National Aviary in Pittsburgh unveiled its new bird friendly Garden Room, with glass walls on three sides overlooking the historic Allegheny Commons. The new venue provides a space for public programming, meetings and community events. It also serves as a site to educate visitors about ecological concerns relating to the Aviary’s mission, including bird conservation.

Fight Instinct


In conversations with creative friends lately, we keep coming back to the notion of our fight instinct. We’re seduced by it as a motivating force which causes us to throw our energies into work, social interaction or creativity, as if creativity could be driven by some threat to our egos. We feel it, we obey its imperative, but I believe we are wrong. Musings on the power of the fight impulse and possible escapes from it.
